Meet James Copeland aka Olde Dominion Dad
Meet James Copeland
Writer. Parent. Chaos Coordinator. Coca-Cola Enthusiast.
James Copeland is the mind behind Olde Dominion Dad, a blog chronicling the beautiful disaster of parenting four wild children with humor, heart, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. He’s been married to Jo—his clumsy, brilliant, and wonderfully unfiltered wife—for over a decade, and together they navigate the messy, magical chaos of family life in Virginia.
Fueled almost entirely by Coca-Cola and sheer stubbornness, James has a lifelong passion for storytelling. He’s also a contributor to No Dice No Glory, where he occasionally trades dad jokes for wargame strategy and historical deep dives. Whether it’s a bedtime tantrum or a beanbag chair explosion, James turns everyday moments into laugh-out-loud stories that feel both familiar and fresh.
At the heart of it all, he just really loves to write—and make people laugh while he’s at it.

Get to Know the Family
James (that’s me) is the dad and designated storyteller. Jo is the long-suffering, eye-rolling wife who somehow still laughs at my jokes. Logan is our oldest—sweet, sneaky, and the ringleader. Kara is 9 going on 30, allergic to dirt and drama-prone. Slayden’s 7 and believes every day is a Marine bootcamp. And Moira, our 2-year-old, is the queen of the house—we just live here under her rule.
Together, we’re loud, chaotic, and laugh a lot. Mostly at each other.
